Have you heard about this awful program called TeenScreen?

It's a private company that gets government funding. They go into public schools and deliver a COMPUTER QUIZ that "diagnoses" mental illness in children.

The questions are, many of them at least, really stupid. They describe things EVERYONE probably feels at one time or another. The kid answers "yes" to some questions, then gets diagnosed.

This kind of demonstrates how bogus the evaluation of mental illness is, anyway, but points out how naive people will be in accepting mental health hocus pocus.

One girl in Indiana clicked "yes" on the question that she preferred to stay home rather than party with her friends. And "yes" that she liked to clean house. After she took the test, a teacher took her into the hallway and said she had "obsessive compulsive disorder" (because she likes to clean) and social anxiety disorder (because she doesn't like to party.)

Her parents never knew she was getting this test, or that she would be diagnosed by a computer and informed of her "mental illness" by a teacher.

I'm thinking the creators of TeenScreen are suffering from "Takes Advantage of a Naive Public Disorder."
